Next level in neurorehabilitation

ProPrios approach

takes intensive individual rehabilitation to a new level for a sustainable improvement in patients’ condition by introducing more effective procedures and devices, and complementing the program with more accessible half-day, one-day and one-week “retain & develop” treatment patterns.

Systematic method

to treating patients with neuro-orthopaedic conditions is to combine the most innovative techniques and technologies with classic rehabilitation methods into one “ProPrios” concept, where each method contributes to the maximum effect of the subsequent treatment.

Neuroplasticity

we attempt to awaken dormant neurons and modulate them to become active, and take over the functions of their damaged counterparts. It is by activating dormant cells that the brain is able to regain its ability to govern the body, control movement and speech - so called "neuroplasticity".

Main elements of ProPrios approach

ProPrio terapia

ProPrio

Dynamic proprioceptive correction, so-called "astronaut suit training".

Our brain constantly receives and analyses impulses from sensors (proprioceptors) located all over the body, including our arms and legs. ProPrio has its origins in space medicine and stands for enhancing healthy sensory impulses from the limb receptors to the CNS.

The so-called "astronaut suit training", is one of the most intensive proprioceptive stimulation techniques used today for patients with affection of central nervous system, such as cerebral palsy, a stroke or traumatic brain injury.

The essence of the method is restoring motor center functions of the brain through targeted correction of posture and movement, where the resistance force of elastic elements of the “space” suit is a strong excitation element for proprioceptors.

A powerful flow of “healthy” sensory impulses from the limbs to the brain is created, in order to destroy the established pathological stereotypes and form new “normalized” physiological reflex connections controlling movements and speech.

Virtuálna realita ProPrios

Virtual

Virtual reality to anchor a stable image of action in patient’s mind.

Our brain performs a conversion, a restructuring of the false connections into a correct physiological condition by becoming aware and accepting the visible result of own intention and subsequent action.

In simple words, the patient “sees and remembers" how to properly use his body. VR provides awareness of acquired or regained ability, and consequently an intention to actively use previously "forgotten" body parts.

The psychotherapeutic and anti-depressive effect of helping the patient to "step out of the shadow" of own powerlessness, and form the dominant attitude to move actively and independently cannot be overestimated.

VR massively improves the rehabilitation potential of every patient and completes the "intention - impulse - movement - perception" circle. ProPrios aims to restore a healthy chain of conscious intention, its execution and feedback.

Hydro

AquaMed

HydroKinesio - a unique range of water exercise for children and adults.

Unique properties of water allow patients to perform exercises in the pool that they would not be able to perform on dry land. Having learned a certain movement in the water, one is able to repeat it outside the pool in the future.

Reduced fear of falling allows to move directly to verticalization. The workout engages the "deep" muscles of the body, which significantly strengthens the muscular framework and effectively trains equilibrium and balance reactions.

The patient feels less tension, stiffness or pain that would interfere with success of exercise. Exercising in warm water with reduced load on the spine and joints causes the muscles to relax, simulated antigravity increases mobility.

AquaMed stimulates peripheral blood circulation, removes excess fluid from tissues, reduces swelling, activates the cardiovascular system. The patient enjoys increased self-confidence and freedom of movement.

Spider

Antigravitation treatment for improved mobility of individual limbs and joints.

This combination of techniques of isolated unloading of body (parts) weight in a special suspension system is used to correct patient’s biomechanics of movement and improve his motor activity by neuromuscular activation.

The system offers is a unique opportunity to apply the most appropriate exercise to activate the needed muscles, stabilize or mobilize individual limbs and joints, treat each part of the spine and improve elasticity of muscles and tendons.

The Spider therapy aims at eliminating the functional locomotor imbalance by training the stabilizing muscles of the whole body, improving body control (coordination), increasing muscular strength, and relaxing muscles overloaded by gravity.

These are two modifications of this comprehensive biodynamic movement correction program. Our special cage trainer, using cuffs and tractions adapted to vertical fixation, grants the best opportunity to develop correct motor stereotypes.

Complementary treatments and methods to facilitate the effect of core rehabilitation program

SPEECH THERAPY

This procedure provides normalisation of the tone of the articulation muscles, improvement of the skill of controlling the muscles of the tongue and lips, through which the patient is able to pronounce sounds. The main objectives are to evoke speech in speechless children, to form the correct position of the tongue, to improve breathing and swallowing. The procedure allows to activate the muscles of the articulation apparatus, form the correct exhalation and start working on the emergence of sounds and correct pronunciation. To correct speech disorders in patients, speech therapists use mechanical and probing effects, which allows normalising the tone of the articulation muscles.

OROFACIAL STIMULATION

This complex neuromotor therapy is used in our programmes for correction of speech disorders and achievement of a harmonious interaction between the different components of the orofacial complex. The method of manual influence is based on a combination of acupressure and therapeutic exercises. It is used with patients with dysarthria, swallowing disorders, rhinolalia, sensory and communication disorders. The basic techniques include manual vibration, pulling and pressing.

BOBATH

The essence of neurodevelopmental therapy is to force healthy parts of the brain to perform the functions previously performed by the affected parts of the brain. Systematic visual, auditory, tactile stimulation, as well as special physical exercises lead to the restoration of lost connections in the cerebral cortex, which are responsible for interaction with the body.

VOJTA

Most effective for children up to 2 years of age, based on the principles of reflex movements (locomotion). The therapist initiates reflex movement while preventing pathological incorrect patterns, thereby forcing the muscles to tense and "memorize" the desired position of the head, legs, arms. Over time, the spine straightens and becomes more mobile, the head moves more freely. Supporting functions of the feet and grasping functions of the hands appear. Pronunciation and orientation in space improve.

GALILEO

Exercise on a vibrating platform harmonise the regulation of muscle tone, develop a confident support on the limbs and reduce the severity of other pathological neurological symptoms. Due to sinusoidal oscillations of different frequencies and amplitudes, exercising on the vibrating platform stimulates rhythmic contraction, which leads to harmonisation and regulation of muscle tone, reduction of spasticity of muscle fibres, stimulation of metabolic processes, regeneration of soft and bone tissues, acceleration of muscle growth, improvement of balance and development of confident footing.

BIOFEEDBACK

The treatment method allows the patient to develop the skill of self-control and self-regulation of various body functions to improve the general condition. The essence of the Biofeedback method consists in "returning" to the patient on the screen of a computer monitor or in audio form the current values of his physiological indicators. In our centre we also assess the functional state of muscles, thanks to which we can see their work, determine the tasks for the course of rehabilitation and monitor the correct work of muscles.

TAUB METHOD

or Constraint-Induced Modulation Therapy is a form of kinesiotherapy orientated towards improving the function of the "affected“ limb by provoking movements of everyday life, while isolating the healthy limb. Taub method is one of the most effective tools of rehabilitation for patients with moderate or mild arm paresis in early, late and even in the residual recovery period, i.e. even if the stroke is more than a year old. The approach is based on overcoming the phenomenon of "learned not to use" (paretic limb) by immobilising the healthy arm and teaching the affected arm to perform targeted exercises. CI therapy is not limited to immobilisation of the healthy arm; daily training of the paretic limb is the key to effectiveness of this approach.

MULTIMODAL STIMULATION

Specialised stimulation of self-care abilities in a multifactorial environment, potentiating each other towards the goals set. For brain injury patients, the entire range of neurological impairments (motor, cognitive, emotional-behavioural, sensory, visual, etc.) is addressed by specialists. The content of the work is based on specialised stimulation of the patient's "everyday abilities".

MASSAGE

ProPrios uses a variety of classical, segmental and periosteal massage techniques in combination with acupressure and lymphatic drainage techniques, considering the individual characteristics of the patient's condition. This method of myofascial therapy helps to normalise muscle tone and skin turgor, improve lymphatic and blood circulation, stimulate the function of sweat and sebaceous glands, improve metabolism and tissue trophism.

MANUAL THERAPY

We apply osteopathy, chiropractic, cranio-sacral therapy, myofascial release, etc. - a variety of manual therapy methods to achieve mobilisation (improved mobility) of joints, their physiological positioning and elimination of functional blockages. This method is of great importance in neuro-orthopaedic programmes based on the use of „astronaut suits", as it helps to eliminate unwanted reactions from the compression effect of the elastic elements of the suit on the spine and musculoskeletal system.

MUD AND PARAFFIN APPLICATIONS

Partial local application of mud and paraffin on different parts of the body is used to prevent and treat various types of myofascial pain and microtraumas, mild inflammatory processes that impede the work of the musculoskeletal system. The therapeutic mud comes into contact with the skin and has a thermal and anti-inflammatory effect on the underlying tissues, improving regional blood flow, trophics and tissue regeneration.

KINESIOTAPING

Is used to relieve and stabilise the musculoskeletal apparatus by using original patches (special elastic bands - „tapes"). Properly applied kinesiotapes take over part of the muscle or joint load, align fascial tissues, stimulate nerve endings, help to facilitate lymphatic drainage and reduce pain sensations.

SPIRAL STABILISATION

Or so-called SM System for neuroorthopaedic correction by Dr. Richard Smisek combines spinal stabilisation exercises and elements of soft manual therapy to relieve increased muscle tension that prevents optimal movement of the vertebrae. The goal of both the active part (exercises) and the passive part (gentle manual therapy) is to free the spine from existing "clamps" and restore the intervertebral discs - overall effect is stretching of the spine, relief and pain relief. The result is muscle reactivation - strengthening, stretching and engaging weak and tight muscles, correcting muscle imbalances, reducing back curvature, correcting posture and developing the ability to control optimal movement of the spinal column.

REFLEX THERAPY

Methods like acupuncture and electro acupuncture to influence biologically active points and correct somato-vegetative disorders, normalise muscle tone, and eliminate myofascial trigger points.

MAGNETIC THERAPY

A non-invasive physiotherapeutic treatment method based on application of a low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic field. Its induction causes a biological effect in tissues - anaesthesia, muscle and blood vessel relaxation, improves metabolism and accelerates the process of tissue regeneration.

LASER

Another non-invasive physiotherapeutic treatment method based on the application of coherent polarised monochromatic light in the form of a low intensity laser beam. First of all, it has a biostimulating effect, as well as improving regeneration process, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects based on induced photochemical reactions.

ULTRASOUND THERAPY

A physiotherapeutic method based on the use of mechanical energy of longitudinal waves that penetrate deeply through soft tissues, increasing regional blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce oedema and accelerate regeneration processes. It is mainly used for relaxation and recovery of the musculo-ligamentous apparatus.

ELECTROMYOSTIMULATION

A non-invasive method of therapeutic influence of electrical impulses on muscles and nerve endings, thereby generating involuntary muscle contraction. We use this method in programmes aimed at stimulating paralysed body parts and weakness of skeletal muscles.

TENS

Non-invasive physiotherapeutic method of percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, which suppresses the transmission of pain along the nerve and the production of endorphins and natural analgesic hormones. It is applied when non-medication analgesia and muscle relaxation are required.

DYADYNAMIC THERAPY

A non-invasive physiotherapeutic method that involves gentle but constant stimulation of nerve endings to achieve muscle relaxation, improvement of microcirculation, tissue trophism, lymphatic drainage in the treatment of various diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

OXYGEN THERAPY

Physiotherapeutic treatment method involving direct delivery of 96% oxygen air mixture, aimed at eliminating oxygen deficiency in organs and tissues, increasing immune defence and adaptive abilities to various stress effects, improving systemic blood circulation and metabolic processes.

BASAL STIMULATION

A complex stimulus treatment method is applied when working with patients who perceive the outside world only through their own body. The approach is based on the concept of movement-perception-communication. This therapy stimulates the perception of one's own body in support of personal development, helps to orientate oneself in space and time, and helps to reduce fears and complexes.
